Fight, Flight, or Freeze?

Are you in fight, flight or freeze mode?

Believe it or not, many of you are stuck in freeze mode right now! What am I even talking about …

First let’s have a quick anatomy and physiology lesson to cover the basics;

The nervous system is complex with many moving parts. You have the autonomic nervous system which breaks down into central and peripheral. The central nervous system is the brain and spinal cord. The peripheral nervous system includes all of the neurons outside of the brain and spinal cord. It gets more complicated. Next you have the sympathetic, parasympathetic, and enteric nervous systems. The enteric controls the gut, the parasympathetic controls functions that help your body relax and digest and the sympathetic puts you into fight or flight when you're stressed out. The later 3 use both the central and peripheral nervous systems to make things happen in the body.

Ok now let's talk about the sympathetic nervous system a bit more.

When you get stressed, what happens? Your heart starts to race, it gets harder to breath, sweat starts dripping, your appetite drops, diarrhea sets in ... you can feel the cortisol rising as I describe it right?! That's the sympathetic nervous system.

To some extent that's a protective mechanism for your body. Blood and energy shunt to the organ systems that need the boost in order for you to survive. The famous example goes like this; If you see a tiger in the woods you have 3 options.

1. Fight it.

2. Flight it.

3. Freeze

Basically, your body is preparing you to get strong and raged enough to fight the tiger or fast enough to outrun it (flight it). However, in this state, you can also freeze from overwhelm and do nothing at all but stare the tiger in the eye and let it destroy you.

Many people are still stuck in the pandemic state of freeze. Universities and employers are now "mandating" the vaccine. You're overwhelmed and afraid, and don't even know where to start. You're frozen. I get it, it's a lot to wrap your head around, and it is scary. Medical freedom is on the line.

First, take a deep breath. Stand back from the situation for a minute and ask yourself, "Am I in fight, flight, or freeze". You certainly don't want to freeze, there really isn't anywhere to run, so it's time to fight like a mama lion protecting her cubs.

Next, find a good attorney in your state that knows how to interpret the laws in your specific state. Many of these organizations use language to make themselves seem a lot more powerful than they are. You can fight it. It's probably not going to be easy, and you're going to have to jump through hoops, but your health and life are worth it.

Start searching for an organization that supports medical freedom in your specific state. Michigan For Vaccine Choice is one of my favorites. On their website you'll find a list of both doctors and attorneys that support and understand medical freedom.

You can fight, you just need to start taking steps in the right direction. Like I said, it’s not going to be easy but it’s going to be worth it.
